abstract:
How does our motion and sensation change in tune with the landscape? How can our breath sync with the movement surrounding us?
ÁLAMO immerses itself and the viewer in these questions, not seeking to answer them, but rather to attentively feel the nuanced dynamic between body and earth.
The film is in no rush, moving with the rhythm of breath. Playing with shadows of the nude form, living & cut plants, and a serene moth on a window,
ÁLAMO uses these overlapping layers of light to create an ethereal yet visceral scene.
ÁLAMO was shot using both digital and Super 8mm film format, but in addition to that, Lívia expanded the project’s visual language by incorporating photogram techniques by bringing original elements that were captured on film, such as flowers, into the physical realm. She manipulated them directly onto 35mm film in the darkroom, where she experimented with different developing processes. This way bypasses the mechanical mediation of the camera, forging a more immediate and tactile connection between the viewer and the natural world, while emphasizing its vivid colors and rich textures.
