PRESS RELEASE

NEW YORK, NY
- New Design High School and All Street Gallery present Awesome Work!, the annual exhibition of work made by students at a small, design-focused, public high school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, from May 15-17th at All Street Gallery’s Lower East Side location at 119 Hester Street.  An opening reception will be held on May 15th from 3:30-6PM.

New Design High School seeks to break barriers in both public and design education, shaping a new paradigm of learning centered on students’ lived experiences, relationships, and community. Across our students’ four years at New Design, they will take classes across creative disciplines – studio art, graphic design, 3D design, fashion and textiles. We empower students to develop new artistic and design skills, take risks, develop their artistic voice, and prepare for a well-designed life after graduation.

New Design High School uses design in all subjects to ignite the potential of our youth. Whether an ELA or Math class, we strive to honor the design process where students can ideate, test, and revise around problems. As an unscreened public school, we meet students where they are at, whether we are their first art and design teachers or they come with a portfolio of work, providing them time, space, and challenge to develop as artists, designers, and storytellers.

Awesome Work! represents the culmination of students’ year-long exploration in a variety of traditional, 2D, 3D, wearable, and experimental media, exploring concepts such as the self, art history, light and space, sustainability, and social justice. A student-run production, the work has been created and space curated by current students.

The gallery welcomes visitors May 16th and 17th from 1-7PM. New Design High School’s design teachers are Charity Lord, Rachel Poccia, Peter Tresnan, Julie Zenobi, and Jake Catalonotto.

About All Street Gallery:
Founded in 2018, All Street Gallery is a gallery and platform for emerging and underrepresented artists whose work focuses on social engagement and community empowerment. Initially created as an artist collective and grassroots protest organization, All Street is driven by its roots in the city’s creative community. The gallery’s mission is to use art as a means of protest, resistance, and social change, highlighting voices that challenge the status quo. After opening its first location on East Third Street in the East Village, All Street expanded in 2023 with a second space at 119 Hester Street. Both locations continue to provide a platform for artists whose work addresses important social and political issues.
